Big loads, easy access
Ferndale jobs tend to be larger but simpler to reach than Bellingham's. Flat ground and wide driveways mean we can often back the truck right up to the shop door, which makes a big cleanout faster to load.

The shop that has not had room for a vehicle in years, the outbuilding where stored furniture went damp over the winter, the three-car garage packed to the door. We clear it and haul it away.
Ferndale has two kinds of properties, and they fill up in different ways. On the older rural lots toward the Nooksack and out along the county roads, the house is only part of it. There is a shop, a pole barn, a lean-to or two, and every one of them has been absorbing things for years: old lumber, broken mowers, tires, scrap metal, furniture someone meant to fix, boxes from three moves ago.
In the newer subdivisions, it is the garage. Two and three car garages that hold everything but a car, plus side yards stacked with old patio furniture, a dead trampoline and the playset the kids outgrew.
Wet winters add to it. Furniture, mattresses, cardboard and clothing stored in an outbuilding or an uninsulated garage often come through a Whatcom County winter damp, musty or mouldy, and there is nothing to do but haul them. We load all of it, sort out what can still be donated or recycled, and take the rest away so you get the space back.

Outbuilding cleanouts usually hold a lot of metal: old tools, appliances, roofing, fencing and equipment. Metal goes to recycling rather than disposal wherever it can.
Old shops and barns are where hazardous leftovers turn up: half cans of paint, motor oil, pesticides, fuel and propane cylinders. We cannot haul those. Set them aside and we will point you to the county drop off for household hazardous waste.
For a few bags at a time, a yard waste cart or a drop off site works. For a big lot cleanup, a brush pile from a windstorm or old fencing mixed in with branches, it is usually quicker to have it loaded and hauled in one trip. That is the kind of job we see a lot in Ferndale. See yard waste removal.
If you have a truck, time and a strong back, hauling it yourself is cheapest. Selling or giving away anything usable cuts the load before you pay anyone. When there is too much to move yourself, or it is heavy, awkward or spread across a shop and a garage, a single estimate for the whole job is usually cheaper than several self-haul trips. Our guide to what junk removal costs explains what changes the price.
Start with what someone else could use: list it, offer it to family, or set it aside for donation. What is left, including damp or broken pieces, can go in one load. We carry it out of the house or outbuilding, donate what is in good shape where we can, and haul the rest. See furniture removal.
We also haul junk in Bellingham, Lynden and Blaine, and in Everson, Sudden Valley, Birch Bay, Sumas, Deming and Custer.
